Editing Blog For Music Video

On Tuesday Lesly, Anyeska, Britania and I all worked on editing our music video. It took up the majority of our class time, and unfortunately, the editing process did not go well. Although we were able to dump all the footage from the SD card to the desktop, it took a while to view each scene we would use and for the computer to handle the download size. Eventually, we were able to finish the downloading process and save it all into Google Drive. After this, Lesly found and downloaded The Lazy Song, by Bruno Mars onto the computer. Once it was ready to edit, we opened Pinnacle Studios and imported the footage and audio into the program. From there, we edited the raw footage. It was difficult to do this because the preview of a scene (on the right side of the screen) would lag and slow down the computer. Thus, it took some time to figure out the different scenes just by their image, when we tried to match it to the lyrics. Since I wasn’t going to be at school for the rest of the week due to a family emergency, I had to rely on my group to finish the editing.

Although the first day we edited while I was still at school this is what happened. Due to the fact that our class time was running short, we were only able to begin editing the first scene. First, Anyeska used a razor blade icon to split the first scene because it was too long and unnecessary. We thought to detach the audio from the shot, but it helped to match the first lyrics to our dance. Since the background sound was the actual song, we wanted to dance or act out each scene with a reference and to potentially benefit us while editing. There was lots of difficulty trying to place the first scene as soon as the initial lyrics: "Today I don't feel like doing anything" started. Apparently, Pinnacle Studios uses a magnetic timeline, in which any clip you drag and drop into the timeline snaps to any existing clips. None of us knew that you can turn that function off, so that was a real struggle. All of us tried to fix it or get the scene to where we wanted it, but none of us could figure it out. With little time left, we decided to end our editing process. Now I would have to rely on my group mates to finish it next class. Unfortunately, after Anyeska saved the music video she deleted the footage from the desktop, thinking that she wouldn’t need it, but it backfired and ended up disabling the footage from pinnacle studios. She ended up solving the problem even though it took up five minutes of editing time.

These are editing techniques the group planned to use in the music video. Some include adding a title screen, subtitles, cropping footage, and a fade-in/out. Hopefully next class they will have a much easier time editing. We wanted to make sure while editing that the vision we saw would come to life and all members were happy. I hope editing will be successful for them. Yes, it was hard at first, but Anyeska told me Lesly and Brit seemed to be experienced and ready to edit our footage. The only type of sound we planned to use in the music video is background music. The camera movements and angles we used were: High angle, tilt shot, pan shot, long shot, medium close up shot, over the shoulder, point of view, zoom in/out. My group mates have informed me all of these editing techniques will be used while editing our music video. They will try to finish editing so it comes in between one minute and five seconds to a minute and fifteen. To end with, my group mates and I will create a fun and interesting music video that will excite, engage, entertain, and fill audiences.

Filming Blog #2 For Music Video

Last weekend on Sunday, I joined with my group members to finish filming our music video. The time we met was initially going to be 12 PM, but we decided to meet at Anyeska’s house around 1:30 PM because we didn’t have much left to film. At first, we had four scenes left to film. However, we ended up breaking the storyboard and switching over to new ideas. We only had to film one scene on Sunday, which was our very last scene of the music video. Scene six and seven from the storyboard were merged together into one scene, breaking the storyboard. Scene twelve from the storyboard had to be changed in order to fit the idea we had in mind. Instead of filming a long shot of me kicking my socks off then laying on the couch, Anyeska filmed an extreme close up shot of her kicking her shoes off. It was Britania’s idea to show someone taking off their shoes while saying the lyrics stated, “‘Cause today I swear I’m not doing anything”. This would imply that someone was not going to just walk out their house barefoot and walk to a store or somewhere public. The changes made to the storyboard were done the day before Saturday.
To continue, scenes thirteen through fifteen were completely changed up on Sunday. We merged the three scenes together, making them one scene. We also cut our actions short. In scene thirteen, our initial idea was to throw up paper confetti and lay on the floor. Then, in fourteen the last scene would be someone covering the camera with their hand. Instead, we went against the storyboard again. We decided to throw the paper confetti upwards, then everyone else except me would huddle in a circle and cheer happily while they jumped in the air. I would then walk away from the group and cover the camera with my hand. Anyeska’s mom was behind the camera for the previously described scene. The camera angle was a medium shot. After this, the music video was called to an end. I felt relieved, so after this we all went out to have fun.
All in all, filming was successful. I enjoyed working with Anyeska, Britania, Lesly, and Nick. We were really careful and decisive about how we wanted to film the music video. Everyone stayed focused and was really involved since we all had at least three scenes. We all played a huge part in the music video. To add on, we filmed in five different settings around Anyeska’s house, and everyone had a chance to operate the camera. We all actively contributed to the music video as a team. I felt as though I learned a lot about working with others and handling a camera. It was really fun to create something that’s your own. I am happy that I got to work with my friends because it was a great educational experience. I look forward to working with the same people for every other projects or tasks that come along the way.

Filming Blog For Music Video

While filming on Saturday and Sunday I found out so much more I didn’t know before about cameras and filming. It only took us a few hours each day to get all the clips we needed. In class we all decided that this Saturday and Sunday would be our filming days. Anyeska took the camera, SIM card, and tripod because we were going to be filming in her house. After this, we packed up and brought ourselves and the clothes we needed to change into for the music video. Anyeska bought confetti, some sunglasses, a birthday hat, and birthday suit/cape. Two of us wore sweatpants and hoodies. While the other 3 wore shirts and sweatpants. We all wore sunglasses. I learned that you could make the camera higher with the tripod and I didn’t know that before.
Lesly was the first scene we did because he had to leave soon, so we decided to get his scenes out of the way. The first scene we did was Lesly is in his birthday suit and hat. In this scene he is strutting, drops a part of his suit and ends up covering the camera with the cape. The next scene we filmed was Anyeska’s while we waited for Britania because she still was not at her house. Anyeska’s scene was from a high angle. The scene went from her laying on the bed to a transition of the camera zooming into the phone. It’s took us a few tries to get this because I wasn’t y’all enough to get the angle we wanted and we kept laughing. After this though, we recorded our friend who volunteered to film with us Nick. His scene where he is playing video games. Brit finally showed up and we were able to film the dancing scenes.
At first my group wanted to film us dancing the same as Bruno Mars, but I thought we should make up our own dance instead of copying. I came up with the dance moves, which was pointing at the floor, ourselves, shaking our hands over each other, and then shrugging. It went along with the lyrics. Then we did the scene where Bruno Mars says “No no no no no no no no no nooo”. Anyeska printed out “No’s” and we got in a line and showed it for each one. Lesly had to leave, so we proceeded to do my part and Britania’s. In my scene I get a phone call, but don’t pick up. Then I had show the audience all the missed calls I have on my phone. For this Lesly and Britania kept calling my phone and I didn’t answer, so that way it appeared on my screen. I also had to film in the same setting, but this time I was kicking off my shoes and laying back. Anyeska also has a scene in the same setting as her previous one where she throws the blanket over her head. Although, Britania’s scene was by far the easiest because we just filmed her thinking about combing her hair, but then she doesn’t. This was all the filming we did Saturday. Sunday we only had two scenes left, which were very easy. We cut out two scenes we didn’t need. Our last two scenes was throwing the confetti, dancing, and then I walked up to the camera and covered it. This took us one try, which was amazing and that’s it. After all this, we were finally done.

Storyboard For Music Video

Today my teammates and I manifested our storyboard in our group chat. After completing our planning blog where we discussed how we wanted to go about filming our music video, we knew it was time for our storyboard. It took approximately an hour to draw and write out our camera angles, camera movements and actions for each scene. Had we not execute a plan in our planning blog last class, story boarding would have been a much longer process. Our teachers restrictedour timing to at least one minute and five seconds, and at most one minute and fifteen seconds. Ourstoryboard consists of fifteen different five second scenes. Meaning, our music video should be around one minute and fifteen seconds long. So far, we are on a good track with timing. Our storyboard is shown down below. It is filled with great details which will guide us during the filming process.

Within the first scene of the blog we will edit in a fade in transition which then displays a wide shot of my three other teammates, a volunteer, and I dancing to the lyrics “today I don’t feel like doing anything.” Secondly, we will have a high angle of someone laying in bed “sleeping;”Lyrics: “I just wanna lay in my bed.” Third, we will have a jump cut into an over the shoulder of someone silencing their phone then tossing it on the couch— lyrics: “don’t feel like picking up the phone, so leave a message at the tone. ‘Cause today I swear I’m not doing anything.” In the fourth scene: “No, I ain’t gonna comb my hair, ‘cause I ain’t going anywhere.” The actions that match the lyrics would be someone holding a comb, looking at it, placing it down, then shrugging their shoulder. In the fifth scene, all five of us involved will hold up signs which reads “no.” Using the camera movement, pan and a close up shot, we will move the camera left to right going down the rows of “no” signs. The lyrics will play: “no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, noo.” On the last “no,” the camera will zoom into someone’s eye and then zoom out of it in the following scene. The following scene will include the lyrics “I’ll just strut in my birthday suit, and let everything hand loose.” A person will be strutting sound and pulling their suit an appropriate amount to match the lyrics of letting “everything hang loose.” Moreover, the next scene will be a dance sequence similar to the one we introduced the video with; This will be portrayed through a wide shot.  The lyrics: “yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeaaah.” Next, there will be a pan shot of someone playing Xbox, but dropping the gaming controller. Lyrics: "Oh, today, I don't feel like doing anything." Then, there will be a high angle of someone laying in the bed and pulling the cover over their head: “I just wanna lay in my bed.” Furthermore, along with a jump cut, there will be an insert of a phone screen which displays missed calls. The following scene will also be an insert of a phone screen which shows a new voicemail/message. Lyrics: "Don't feel like picking up my phone, so leave a message at the tone) The next scene will consist of a long shot which shows someone kicking off their socks or shoes then laying on the couch. (Lyrics: cause today I swear I'm not doing anything.”) The third to last scene will be everyone throwing papers in the air and having the last dance sequence (Lyrics: "Nothing at all...) The instrumental will then play out as everyone lays down on the couch and floor as though we are asleep. (Lyrics: nothing at all"). Finally, someone will walk from the group and cover the camera with their hands, which signifies the ending to our music video.

Thankfully, my team mates and I work well together and we all pull our own weight. Everyone makes an effort to contribute towards each section of the project.

Conventions For Music Video

Codes and conventions are used by many different companies. They can be used as a marketing strategy in order to grab the attention of consumers. That way the product seems more interesting. A code is a system of signs that are put together to create a meaning. One example of a code is a technical code which are camera techniques, framing, lighting, exposure etc. Another example of codes are symbolic codes, which consist of objects,  the setting, body language, clothing, and color. Lastly, there are written codes which are headlines, captions, speech bubbles, and language styles. Conventions are habits of doing things. In short, what people have come to expect. Examples of conventions are: Camera angles, shots, editing, lighting, sound, music, computer graphics, and special effects.

Many songwriters use conventions in order to help the audience understand the theme of the video. They also want to give them a feel for the emotion behind it. While in the original music video of The Lazy Song, the dancers dressed in baggy clothes and wore ape masks. This created a crazy, lazy, but happy atmosphere. Throughout the song the dancers dance along with the music. In the Lazy Song's music video, there were a limited amount of camera angles. One camera angle the director used was a wide shot which allows for the audience to see everything lateral. The wide shot was used in the whole music video. This is evident because as the music video was occurring, there were not any changes to the wide shot camera angle. The director is trying to engage with the audience by showing them all of the dancers with Bruno Mars in the center.

For our music video, we will change the dynamic. To start with, we are going to engage our audience by opening with a fade in. This makes the audience seem like they just walked into something. Then right after, we will start dancing just as in the original video. This will catch the audiences eye and make them want to continue watching. To add onto that, our costumes, makeup, and props will surely catch the eye of our viewers because we are wearing bright and crazy colors. Our music video will also take place in multiple settings, rather than just one. We will zoom in to the birthday suits characters eye and transport from the bedroom to a different location. Another thing we show differently is what we’re doing. The actors in the film will be watching TV, combing their hair, and playing video games. These are things that people contribute to everyday life and have genuine interests in. Lastly, there will be more camera movements which allows for a better understanding of the film's theme.

Planning Blog For Music Video

For our music video, we will be filming at my partner Anyeska’s house. There are no present health and safety procedures we would follow. The props would be a phone, gaming controller, TV remote, paper, and hair comb. The costumes would be birthday suit and formal clothing. In the beginning of the music video, there will be a fade in into a wide shot of our dance sequence. Every action by the characters are going to be matched by the lyrics of the song. So, the next scene will be a high angle of someone laying in their bed (Lyric: "I just wanna lay in my bed"). Then, there will be a jump cut to an over the shoulder shot of someone silencing a phone call and throwing it (Lyric: "Don't feel like picking up the phone, so leave a message at the tone, cause today I swear I'm not doing anything"). Next, there will be a jump cut to a medium shot of someone holding a hair comb then putting it down (Lyric: "No, I ain't gonna comb my hair cause I ain't going anywhere" as they lip sync it). After this, there will be a line of five people with signs reading "No" (Lyric: "No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, nooo). In the last "No" there will be a zoom in to a character's eye, then a zoom out in a different location and showing a person in a birthday themed costume. Following this will be a zoom out from the character's eye to the living room and someone will be shown dressed in a birthday suit. They will be strutting around and dropping some part of the birthday suit (Lyric: "I'll just strut in my birthday suit. And let everything hang loose"). Then, we will have another wide shot of our dance sequence (Lyric: "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah"). Next, there will be a pan movement of someone playing Xbox, but dropping the gaming controller (Lyric: "Oh, today, I don't feel like doing anything"). Then, there will be a repetition from before where there is a high angle of someone laying in their bed; However, this time they will be pulling the cover over their head on camera. (Lyrics: "I just wanna lay in my bed"). Furthermore, along with a jump cut, there will be an insert of a phone screen which displays missed calls. Not to mention, there will be subtitles throughout the music video.

Schedule: (11/18-12/9)
- Day 1: Planning our music video.
- Day 2: Script and story boarding.
- Day 3: Filming.
- Day 4: Edit
- Day 5: Submitting music video.
- Day 6: Reflecting on music video.

Back-up Plan: We will be filming at my house. It will be the same where in the beginning of the music video, there is a fade in into a wide shot of our dance sequence. In the last "No" there will be a zoom in to a character's eye, then a zoom out in a different location and costume. Following this will be a zoom out from the character's eye to the living room and dressed in a birthday suit. They'll be strutting around and dropping some part of the birthday suit (Lyric: "I'll just strut in my birthday suit. And let everything hang loose"). Then, we will have another wide shot of our dance sequence (Lyric: "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah"). Next, there will be a pan shot of someone playing Xbox, but dropping the gaming controller (Lyric: "Oh, today, I don't feel like doing anything"). Then, there will be a repetition from before where there is a high angle of someone laying in their bed (Lyric: "I just wanna lay in my bed"). Along with, the jump cut to an over the shoulder shot of someone silencing a phone call and throwing it (Lyric: "Don't feel like picking up my phone, so leave a message at the tone, cause today I swear I'm not doing anything"). The second to last scene will be everyone throwing papers in the air and having the last dance sequence (Lyrics: "Nothing at all, nothing at all"). Finally, someone will walk from the group and cover the camera with their hands, which signifies the ending to our music video."

Intro to new project

I recently finished my commercial project and now my group and I will be working on a music video project. I felt like my commercial project went well but could have went better. This is mainly because there were story boarding inconsistencies in the commercial. Some of the scenes we filmed did not match the story board we planned. Even though the commercial did not go as planned, I was taught many things. One thing i learned was how to work with other group mates creating a film. Another thing I learned was how to do many camera movements such as pans, tilts, and tracking shots. I also learned first-hand how to edit my films to make the end result crisp and interesting. I will integrate the different techniques I learned from the commercial project into my music video project to help it become more interesting than my previous project.

The song my group and I chose was "The Lazy Song", by Bruno Mars. It will be a clean version of the song so it is school appropriate. I recommended this song to my group and they all agreed. We will start from 1:57 into the music video and end at 3:03. This is because the minimum is 1:05 seconds and the maximum is 1:15 seconds. One good thing about this song is that it has lyrics that are easy to act out. This limits confusion on what to do in specific parts of the song. This song is a fun, upbeat song that highlights how many people feel when they are tired and do not want to do anything. The fact that the song relates to the audience makes the song more interesting. I am super excited to film this music video!

A music genre is a conventional category that identifies some pieces of music as belonging to a shared tradition or set of conventions. Music can be divided into different genres in many different ways. The artistic nature of music means that these classifications are often subjective and controversial, and some genres may overlap. The camera angle we would use in the music video will be a high angle. The camera shots and movements would include pans, tilts, variants of medium to close up shots, wide shots, and long shots. The sound would be a score and sound bridge. The editing process would include fade in and out, insert, and cross cutting. 1. Costumes: Birthday suit but formal clothing. 2. Lightning: Dim, to set the mood of being lazy. 3. Actors: Everyone in our group (Anyeska, Jazmin, and Brit). 4. Makeup: None. 5. Props: Phone, gaming controller, TV remote, paper, and hair comb. 6. Setting: In a house.

Editing Part 2

Last class we were able to actually start editing. After dealing with all of the frustration of the computers not working and not being able to concentrate. We finally were able to begin. Pinnacle Studios worked. We got into class, sat down, and waited for further instructions. The teacher told the left side of the room that we would be working first with the computers. As I stood up to get the computers, I then grabbed number 13. Opening the computer, I logged in and proceeded to go to google. I went in my google drive and put all the videos I dumped in there into Pinnacle studios. It took some time for the videos to load, but we were advised to wait.
We didn’t need the computer to crash. So we waited. After about a minute or so the videos loaded. I began to choose from the scenes we were going to use. The scenes that were the best. I started to take each clip and cut the parts that were not needed from the scene. These were parts of the scene where we either talked, it was silent, or it just didn’t make sense. We also knew that we could not exceed a 30 second time limit. So we kept that in mind as well. Using the scissors icon we cut and deleted or just simply right clicked. Then pressed “cut”.
After shortening the scenes and taking what we didn’t need out. I then sped up two scenes because we didn’t want to cut it out and it just looked better sped up. So we clicked speed and then chose 140% for both scenes. Music in the background was definitely needed, so I detached the audio from each clip. That way there is silence and the music we input will not be bothered with another sound. For our commercial we wanted to say, “run, skate, jump, and be yourself in Vans.” “Vans off the wall”. So I added our voice over. I chopped up the voice over because specific words are being used for certain scenes. I raised the audio because you couldn’t hear it that well. I also raised the audio for one scene where Lesly says, “I can’t do anything in these”. This made the audio much clearer. The next class was a PSD day, so we didn’t have as much time to continue editing as we did last class. We are pretty much done, so we just added in the music and logo in the end of the commercial.

Editing

Today editing was unsuccessful and frustrating. Lesly came in class and we quickly got started with getting our camera, signing it out, and leaving. I had to change into the same clothes I wore the first filming day, which was taking more time. After this we went straight downstairs to start filming. We continued to film because Lesly was not there on Thursday. This took us a step back because we had to film all of the scenes that had him in it today. Lesly has majority of the scenes, so it took some time. The lighting was bad in front of the media center, so we had to keep moving to different spots. Since we had to film more scenes, we didn’t have time to edit. Also Pinnacle Studios was not working.
It is frustrating not having enough time to be able to edit. It seems like everything caused us to have a delay. From the lighting to the changes of the storyboard. Another thing was the background , it was so loud. The janitor in the school kept making noise for about 10 minutes. So we were unable to record. Then the camera kept looking titled, so I had to hold it. Then we realized talking in the scene is something we probably wouldn’t be able to do because you could barely hear it. The voice recording would have to be on a voice recorder, but we were already doing a voice over. This made it very hard and I felt conflicted.
The different changes in the storyboard and not having direction was quite annoying. I decided to just do what I felt was right. Plus having to tell my group mates to stop getting distracted sometimes was quite of a nuisance. Although all of that happened the scenes ended up looking really great and the changes looked even better than our idea from before. Getting back into my normal clothes added an additional waste of time. It also didn’t help that the bathroom had a bunch of girls in it. Then, Lesly thought he lost his phone, so we were all looking for it. The only type of editing we were able to do was dumping. I chose all of our good scenes from the bad ones. After this, I dumped all of the scenes we are going to use and edit into the computer. Now the next time we edit, hopefully Pinnacle Studios is working and we have more time.

Filming

On Thursday was the day we finally got to film. We signed out our camera, sim card, and tripod and headed outside. Setting up the tripod was a bit hard, but we figured it out. Next, we turned on the camera and decided our first location. We decided to film our first scene in the bus loop. The brand name we picked was "Vans". A group decision was made that we would all wear clothes with that brand name. Anyeska and I had to start filming our scenes that didn't include Lesly because he was not there, so it was a bit hard for us. While shooting different scenes it was a bit difficult because we needed a third person to move the camera in a certain direction for specific shots. So, while trying to film a zoom in shot we asked a friend to do it for us.
Making sure you could clearly see the brands name on our clothes with this zoom in shot, this made our commercial look even better. This lets the viewers know what the commercial is supporting. By convincing you to buy the product. We used one of our friends (Nick) as an extra. He played a skateboarder since that is one of the audiences "Vans" appeals to. At first, we were going to pan the camera, but then we decided to not move the camera at all and just keep it in the position it was in. Another thing we changed was instead of doing a wide shot we decided to do a long shot. Nick skated from far away, then towards the camera. He picked up the skateboard after riding it, so it would look like he just came from somewhere else. This scene was filmed many times because we weren't completely sure how we wanted to capture it, but we finally got it.
After the skating scene we moved on to the next scene. This scene was shot next to the stairs leading to the media center. I played a "Vans model". In this scene I am taking pictures of myself in my Vans outfit looking happy as can be. It's a bit awkward filming in front of a camera and pretending to take pictures of yourself, but it was still fun. It was hard for all of us to be serious because we've never done this before. We also didn't want the commercial to seem as if we were disturbed. Moving on, we did our next scene where the skater, model, and runner meet. This was the hardest scene because we weren't sure what to do when we met in the middle. This is when we came up with the idea of zooming into the vans logo and walking towards the camera from far away. This did not only show the brands logo, but it also implied that we were walking towards something. This follows another scene of where we will be meeting with Lesly's character the next time we film.

Storyboard

The storyboard below, starts off with a wide shot of a boy who is walking and then falls down the stairs. Then, there is a shot of the boy declaring "I can't do anything in these!" with a tilt occurring from his gloomy face to his worn out shoes. All of a sudden, there will be someone running past the boy, which attracts his attention. During that, there will be a voiceover saying "Run" and background music. Next will be someone skating (Voiceover:Skate), and the skater meets up with the model in the Vans outfit (Voiceover: Be yourself in Vans over the background music). All three people representing Vans will meet up and face the boy. They all snap their fingers and a jump cut occurs from his worn out shoes appears to Vans shoes. Finally, he exclaims "Vans Off The Wall!".

Editing Lesson Blog

Today in AICE Media Studies I learned what steps I need to take to get the equipment in my class. I also learned how to save my work and edit. One of my teachers discussed different agreement forms and sign in sheets we would be using throughout the year. This makes me excited and anxious to start getting our equipment. She instructed us to grab agreement sheets before leaving class, so that way we would be able to start getting a feel of the camera and how to shoot. Without the agreement form we are not able to get a camera we will have to wait, which means less time being able to do our work. If needed instructions are on a white notepad, on the right side of the room, hanging from the wall. We then talked about the information we needed to write on the forms. We have to write the number on the tripod, camera, and sim card. This way if an item is loss or broken the teacher will know which item needs replacement or who lost the item.
After this the teacher instructed us on how to properly place the sim card in and out of the computer. We learned how to set up the camera on the tripod. Being able to know how to move the camera side to side and up and down is very important. She made sure to let us know how to tighten and loosen the camera, so that the tripod doesn't fly off. The editing app we will be using this year is pinnacle studios and not iMovie. First we film and after we have taken all of our shots. Using the SD meter, we place the SD card in there and put it into the computer. Using the "dump" technique, which means taking footage to the camera unto the computer. Opening Pinnacle Studios we transfer all scenes from our folder unto the app. Importing the scenes is easy just by clicking the shots you need.
Using raw footage you build an AV Track and drag each scene down to the bottom, so all the scenes you want to edit are there and in order. Each track is a different layer of film. Clicking the scene you want you then get brought to a different screen. Right clicking (razor blade) allows you to cut and take out whatever you don't want. To go to the effects editor you right click and add transitions. I also learned how to add texts in shots. You layer the word track on top of the scene you would like the writing to appear in. For our commercial music needs to be added, so I need to make sure our music is MP3. Then, adding this to my folder I import it to the scene and drag it below the scene. Detached audio is to be deleted because no audio can be heard. To undo something I click undo or the back button. Finally, to save I export to MP4, go full size SD (best quality), start export, save as screen, click desk top,  go to commercial folder, and name the film.

Planning Blog

For our Vans commercial we will be filming at the school's bus loop area. We will have a person walking and falling down the stairs, declaring "I can't do anything in these!"(a tilt shot occurs from his gloomy face to his worn out shoes). Then, the boy looks over and sees three people: someone who is running, someone who is skating, and someone who is walking(dressing in a Vans outfit). A voice over occurs for every person. (" Run, skate, and be yourself in Vans" respectively). After this, they will all meet up at a general area and the scene fades out.
  • Props: Vans skateboard.
  • Costumes: Van shoes, Vans socks, Vans shirt, Vans pants, and Vans beanie.
  • Schedule:
- Day 1: Planning our Vans commercial.
- Day 2: Script and story boarding.
- Day 3: Filming.
- Day 4: Editing.
- Day 5: Submitting commercial.
- Day 6: Reflecting on commercial.

  • Location List: We will be filming at the school's bus loop area.
  • Back-up Plan: We will be filming at the school's car loop or student parking lot. It will be the same plan where a person walks and trips, declaring, "I can't do anything in these!"(pointing at his worn out shoes). Then, the boy looks over and sees three people: someone who is running, someone who is skating, and someone who is walking(stylish in a Vans outfit). A voice over occurs for every person. (" Run, skate, and be yourself in Vans" respectively). After this, they will all meet up at a general area and the scene fades out.

Research Blog: Commercial Conventions

Codes and conventions are used by many different companies as a marketing strategy in order to grab the attention of consumers and make their product seem more interesting. A code is a system of signs that are put together to create a meaning. An example of a code is a technical code which are camera techniques, framing, lighting, exposure etc. Another example of a code is a symbolic code which is a code that consists of objects, setting, body language, clothing, and color. Lastly, there are written codes which are headlines, captions, speech bubbles, and language styles. Conventions are habits of doing things. In short, what people have come to expect. Examples of conventions are: Camera angle and shots, editing, lighting, sound, music, computer graphics, and special effects.

Vans uses codes and conventions in their commercials to make their shoes appear more appealing and pop out more to audiences. One example of this is one of their commercials that use a boy skateboarding at a skate park with vans on. In the commercial they show different conventions. For example, in the commercial the boy is skateboarding and the shot changes to a wide angle shot of the boy skating. Another convention that was used in this commercial is when their is a tracking shot that tracked the boy skating to give the audience a better understanding to the boy's point of view. This use of convention make audiences see the shoes as more appealing and "cool"

We chose Vans because we have an interest in this brand of shoe. Now-a-days this type of shoe is very popular and has caught the eyes of others in the skateboard industry. We all love skateboarding and vans provide the perfect shoes to ride and do tricks. The company sponsors surf, snowboarding, BMX, and motocross teams. The company also has a Vans Warped Tour traveling rock festival that we all enjoy to watch.

Introductory

Hi my name is Jazmin. I was born on June 11th. My zodiac sign is a Gemini, so that means I am very outgoing and indecisive. My mother was born a day before me, so she considers me her birthday present. Both of my parents were born in Puerto Rico which means I am full Puerto Rican. My culture is something I am surrounded by all the time. The food my dad cooks and clothes I have are filled with the islands flag. My spanish culture defines me and influences my daily life.
Hobbies I am into are singing and acting. I've been singing since I was about three or four years old. I would grab my grandfathers cane and have a concert for him and my grandmother. Acting has been since I was little too. I love watching movies and have grown up around that atmosphere. I remember my sister being a chicken while watching Day Of the Dead, meanwhile I was fearless. These are just two things I keep very close to my heart.
Although I am a very positive person and I have a bright outlook on life, they're are many things I dislike. Some things I dislike are avocados and tomatoes. They just taste like flavored water to me and it is really disgusting. I also dislike close minded people who hate on others based on their race, ethnicity, or identity. I think all people should get along and if you're not hurting anybody then you should be free to be yourself.
